To Get More Clients, Set an Intention

When you begin any new enterprise -- from taking a class to improve your business skills to deciding you need to attract more clients -- your greatest success will follow making a clear intention. Your brain is always working and if you give it a clear image of where you want to go, you are much more likely to have it's help -- at every level -- in getting there!
Set your intention to get what you want

Once I said to Moshe Feldenkrais, “I know that when I know what I’m doing I can do what I want. It seems to me that first — I need to know what I want.” He gave me a thumbs-up smile that I never forgot!

Set an Intention? You’re just reading a series of blog posts. Why do you need an intention? Is this the Law of Attraction, or woo-woo energy work?

It’s really neither.

It’s more like deciding on the ‘red thread’ of a Feldenkrais® session, or the theme of a class. It’s what your students do when you ask them to notice something now and draw attention to it later when it’s different. It’s what you do when you begin to learn something new, or when you set yourself on a path to get somewhere that really calls to you.

It’s how Moshe Feldenkrais encouraged us to live our lives… by getting what we want, instead of taking what we get.

When you take a moment to decide where you’re going, you give yourself a chance to get started on the path to getting it. It doesn’t matter whether you’re thinking about what you want from the next class you teach, the next advanced training you’ve signed up for, or the next Success Circle call you listen to. You could also have an intention about how many Feldenkrais® clients you want to attract, how many hours a week you intend to work, or how much your clients will pay you. These are some of the most important intentions you can make, if you’re ready to get the practice you want.

Why? Because intention precedes reality.

Our brains are working all the time on whatever we’re telling them to work on. The key is to give them great direction so that they’re working on where we want to go. Otherwise, they’re very likely going anywhere but where we want to end up.

Take a moment and decide what you’re doing here, reading these blog posts. What are you going to get out of them over the rest of this month? Maybe that sounds odd, since you don’t know what I’m going to say in the next several weeks, but it doesn’t really matter.

My intention is to make them as rich and potent as I can, to give you a lot to think about relative to building your practice. But whatever you decide you’re going to get is going to determine what you DO get.

No matter why you’re here, set an intention that speaks to that. It will get your brain moving in that direction, and by the end of the month, you’ll be in a new place.

Moshe was fond of quoting Confucious: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

Doing something to give voice to your intention makes it more real and more compelling. So if it feels like something you can do, leave your intention in a comment below. If you don’t want to do that, write it down and stick it on the edge of your monitor, so that when you come to read, you’ll remember why you’re doing it.

By the end of the month, you’ll understand why you set that intention, even though you didn’t know how it could be fulfilled! And I’ll bet you’ll be a step closer to setting an intention about getting the number of Feldenkrais® clients you want.
